Rescued Elephants Need Your Help!

As you may know, we've been following these wonderful elephants for quite some time now.   However, it has come to my attention that they really need our help!

Eight elephants whose relocation was ordered by the USDA, will begin the 12-hour trip from the Hawthorn Corporation in Illinois to The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. The whole group will be moved, two at a time, during the course of the next two weeks.

While the Sanctuary has raised a lot of the funds needed for the transfer, the organization estimates that it will need an another $65,000 to complete the trip.  This amount does not include the antibiotics that each sick elephant will require for her yearlong  treatment for tuberculosis, to cost approximately $200,000, nor the basic expenses of regular medical care; hundreds of pounds of fruits, vegetables and grain daily; eight semi trailer loads of hay yearly; and trained caregivers.  The annual cost to care for these eight elephants is estimated to be $2 million.
