Pema Chödrön is an American Buddhist nun and resident teacher at Gampo Abbey, a monastic center for men and women in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She began studying Buddhism in the early 1970s, working closely with the renowned Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche of the Shambhala Buddhist tradition until his death in 1987. She is currently a student of Dzigar Kontrul Rinpoche. From years of study and monastic training, she addresses complex issues with a clarity that bespeaks the fruits of her practice. Pema Chödrön's books include, The Wisdom of No Escape, Start Where You Are, and When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times.

Omega welcomes back Pema Chödrön, one of the preeminent Tibetan Buddhist teachers of our time, in her only teaching appearance in the United States in 2006. This retreat is based on her new book, No Time to Lose: A Timely Guide to the Way of the Bodhisattva, which focuses on 8th-century Buddhist teachings that guide her own life today and that are profoundly relevant for all of us.

"We live in challenging times," she says. "Many of us are seeking ways to respond with compassion and equanimity to what is happening. To do so means working gently yet precisely with our emotions and our state of mind."

In this weekend retreat, Pema Chödrön provides guidance for doing just this. The format includes meditation practice, talks, and question-and-answer sessions. In addition, we work with silence for the first day of the retreat. The retreat is suited for those new to meditation, as well as those who have been practicing for years.
