There are thousands and thousands of songs about love, numerous self-help books, and several myths including Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella drummed into our consciousness since early childhood. It is probably the single human emotion most responsible for classic literature, hit classic movies, blockbuster Disney productions, top ten songs, as well as our inspiration and misery!

It was probably the reason why you first went to see a psychic, and why you are now reading this column. Yet with all the spiritual evolution that we and the planet are going through, it begs the question: why aren’t we getting it right? Is love overrated? And why is it so important for the human soul?

Love and Spiritual Growth

Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat, authors of Spiritual Rx: Prescriptions for Living a Meaningful Life argue that “fear always trips us up on the spiritual path, and it surfaces most often around the practice of love. We are afraid to love and worry that nobody will love us back… Love and intimacy go together, but if we have been disappointed by love, we worry that intimacy is beyond our reach. We fear that we have lost the ability to feel love, or that we are just not loveable, or that we will be hurt again. Sometimes we even fear that love will change us.”

Whether you believe in past life encounters, or kindred spirits, soul mates; and what ever your motives motivations or and fears for getting into, staying in or staying without a relationship, the reasons can be explained by what I call The Love Dynamic!

The Love Dynamic

Many would agree that why you seek, and fall in, love (or not), how you interact in any relationship, ultimately the reasons why any relationship works out or fails, and how you deal with that failure or rejection- which dictates in part what you are going to attract next; are all complex interlinked elements which involve, and stem from, your background (tribal belonging and beliefs), your personal experiences, your expectations; and perhaps even cellular memory- or how your body remembers and reacts to all what you go through, including the brain and how it process all this information neurologically (which is unique to each one of us)!

The Love Dynamic takes all the above into account but also factors-in other important, in my view, dimensions which would allow us a holistic approach and understanding of the how and why’s of love: the soul and where it is at on its own spiritual path. Think of it as an energy blueprint or one overall map, which outlines and explains an individual’s circuitry or body-mind-spirit patterns, which makes the love experience unique to each one of us.

Love - a journey through the Chakras?

Rumer Godden author of A House with Four Rooms, says: “There is an Indian proverb or axiom that says that everyone is a house with four rooms, a physical, a mental, an emotional, and a spiritual. Most of us tend to live in one room most of the time but, unless we go into every room every day, even if only to keep it aired, we are not a complete person.”

If the seven chakras, from the base to the crown, are the soul’s rout to spiritual growth and reaching the penultimate point of ‘oneness’ with the creator; then let’s consider for a moment that each chakra is a ‘room’ one has to visit to become a complete person. A persistent question arises: how healthy are your chakras? And in which room does love live?

In her book Anatomy of Spirit- the Seven Stages of Power and Healing, Caroline Myss, Ph.D. says “physical science recognizes second chakra energy as the law of cause and effect (for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction) and the law of magnetism (oppositely charged objects attract)…the spiritual challenge of the second chakra is to learn to interact consciously with others: to form unions with people who support our development and to release relationships that handicap our growth.”

Next month in the second part, The Love Dynamic- Getting It Right, we will discuss further the first and third chakras in the context of spiritual growth and how creativity and other aspects influences love. Till then, love, light and healing.
